Pacific Rim Tournament Reunion 4 – 7 April 2018 Official report!

January 1, 2019 - January 4, 2019

Last year at the HK 7s, on the 20th year anniversary of the Pacific Rim Tournament, players and supporting staff from all three tournaments got together to celebrate our participation in the tournaments and the camaraderie that had been built through our involvement. Just to remind everyone of the programme in case some peoples’ memories may be a little ‘foggy’, the weekend went as follows:

Thursday 4th HKFC 10s and Gala Dinner. All day at the 10s and then a bus from HKFC to the dinner at Mr. Wolf, Queen’s Road Central. White Stag.

Friday 5th Brunch at the Tia Hang Bar and Grill, walk to the HK Stadium and entry to the Union Box.
Valley tent then White Stag.

Saturday 6th Free day, but the Union gave us a 35 seat corporate box which we made to most of.
Valley tent then White Stag.

Sunday 7th Optional Brunch Tia Hang Bar and Grill. Walk to HK Stadium meet up in the corporate box.
Valley tent then White Stag.

Monday 8th Recover.

Personally, I thought it was the most enjoyable 7s I have attended and it was such a pleasure to see everyone again. A particular thanks must go to Deano and Lorna for making the weekend such an outstanding success. The Pac Rim Whatsapp was constantly busy and some great messages were posted, but I think the message from Crispy really summed up the whole weekend: Dave Lewis, HKRIPA President and official fine master for the reunion!

Gents, at the risk of being serious for a moment, I just wanted to thank everyone involved in making this past weekend such an incredible success. To Pinky and Juggy for coming up with the idea, to Deano and Lorna and everyone at the HKRFU for actually making it happen, and to everyone who attended for making it such a memorable weekend. It’s been 20 years since we were all together, and from the very first beer on Thursday it was clear that – apart from a bit less hair and some slightly higher fat percentages – nothing much had changed. We’ve all played a lot of footy for different teams all over the globe, but I think we’d all agree that the squad we had during those Pac-Rim years were something very special. Not only did we have some tremendous rugby, coaching and management talent, we had the character and personalities that gave us something extra. The fact that so many people travelled so far to be a part of it confirms this. It was a privilege to be a part of it back in the 90s, and it was honour to spend the weekend with such a special group 20 years later.
My ribs and liver will take some time to recover, but let’s not wait until 2038 for the next catch up. Gentlemen, it’s been a pleasure.

Followed most astutely by Wassa’s “What Csipy said!!!”. Taxi for Wassa!

It was simply an EPIC time and we are all looking forward to the next one immensely!!!
